Blood and Laboratory Tests at Samui Home Clinic

Full Blood Count (FBC / CBC)

Checks red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Used to diagnose anaemia, infection, bleeding disorders, and immune conditions. Often the first test ordered when someone is unwell.

Blood Glucose and HbA1c

Blood glucose is tested for diabetes diagnosis and monitoring. HbA1c measures average blood sugar over 3 months.

Liver Function Tests (LFTs)

Assesses liver health. Important for people who drink alcohol, take medication, or have been exposed to hepatitis.

Kidney Function (Renal Profile)

Measures creatinine, urea, and electrolytes. Checks kidney health — important for people on certain medications including PrEP.

Lipid Profile

Measures cholesterol (total, LDL, HDL) and triglycerides. Assesses cardiovascular disease risk.

Thyroid Function (TSH, T3, T4)

Checks thyroid gland activity. Thyroid problems cause fatigue, weight changes, and mood disturbances.

Inflammatory Markers (CRP, ESR)

Detect inflammation and infection. Useful for monitoring chronic conditions and acute illness.

Vitamin B12 and Folate

B12 deficiency causes fatigue, nerve damage, and anaemia. Common in vegetarians and people on certain medications.

Vitamin D

Low Vitamin D is extremely common, even in sunny climates. Affects bone health, immune function, and mood.

Iron Studies (Ferritin, TIBC)

Checks iron stores. Useful for diagnosing iron deficiency anaemia.

Uric Acid

Elevated uric acid causes gout. Common in people who drink alcohol or eat high-purine diets.

STI Screen (HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Herpes)

Dengue NS1 and Antibody Test

Detects dengue fever from day 1 of symptoms.

Malaria Test

Rapid malaria antigen test for travellers presenting with fever after time in malaria-endemic areas.

Available at our clinic and pharmacy.

Urine and Stool Tests

  • Urine dipstick and microscopy — UTI, kidney function

  • Urine pregnancy test

  • Urine drug screen

  • Stool culture — for persistent diarrhoea

  • Stool for occult blood — colorectal cancer screening

Getting Your Results

Most rapid tests (HIV, dengue, blood glucose, urine) return results within 20–60 minutes at the clinic. Full blood panel results are typically available within 24 hours. Our doctors will explain all results and recommend any further action.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before blood tests?

Fasting (8–12 hours, water only) is required for accurate blood glucose, HbA1c, and lipid profile tests. Inform us when booking so we can advise.

Can I get blood test results emailed to me?

Yes. We can email your full results report to you or your doctor. Request this at your appointment.
