For residents and expats managing heart conditions on Koh Samui, getting specialist cardiovascular care has always meant one thing: a trip to the mainland. That changes from August 2026. Samui Home Clinic now has a qualified cardiologist available every weekend at our Rajabhat University Road branch — giving the island's community access to expert heart care without leaving Samui.
What Does a Cardiologist Do? A cardiologist is a specialist doctor who diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels. Unlike a general practitioner, a cardiologist has advanced specialist training in cardiovascular medicine and can manage complex, long-term cardiac conditions that go beyond standard GP care.
Why Is a Cardiologist Now Available in Koh Samui? Koh Samui has a significant and growing population of long-stay expats and retirees — many of whom are in the age group most likely to need ongoing cardiovascular care. Until now, the nearest cardiologist was in Surat Thani or Bangkok, meaning that routine specialist follow-ups were regularly delayed or skipped.
Delays in cardiologist care are how manageable conditions become serious ones. At Samui Home Clinic, it is our mission to bring the level of care this island community deserves directly to Koh Samui. From August 2025, our visiting cardiologist is available every weekend at our Rajabhat University Road branch.
Cardiology Services and Prices We offer transparent, affordable pricing for all cardiology services. All consultations and procedures are performed or reviewed by our certified cardiologist.
Echocardiogram (Echo): 3,000 THB An ultrasound of the heart that produces detailed images of the heart's structure and function. Used to assess heart valves, chamber size, pumping function, and to detect fluid around the heart. Essential for diagnosing and monitoring many cardiac conditions.
EKG Interpretation by Certified Cardiologist: 300 THB An electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) records the electrical activity of your heart. Our cardiologist reviews and interprets the results, providing a specialist-level assessment of heart rhythm, rate, and any abnormalities.
Heart Health Check-Up (Cardiac Check-Up Programme): 5,090 THB A comprehensive cardiovascular assessment designed to evaluate the overall health of your heart and identify your risk of cardiovascular disease. The programme includes:
Complete blood count (CBC)
Blood urea nitrogen (BUN)
Creatinine
Electrolytes
LDL cholesterol
HbA1c (average blood sugar over 3 months)
AST and ALT (liver function)
EKG
Echocardiogram
Chest X-ray (CXR)
This is an exceptional-value programme for anyone who wants a thorough picture of their cardiovascular health — particularly expats, retirees, and anyone with known risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.
Doctor's Consultation Fee: 500 THB
Conditions Our Cardiologist Can Help With Our cardiologist can assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of cardiovascular conditions including:
Complicated Chronic Diseases Expert management of complex chronic conditions including Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension (high blood pressure), and Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol) — particularly where these conditions are interrelated or difficult to control with standard treatment.
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) Specialist review of your condition, risk factors, and long-term management plan. Medication review and optimisation. Referral for further investigation where needed.
Arrhythmia and Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Palpitations, irregular pulse, or a confirmed arrhythmia diagnosis all benefit from specialist evaluation. Our cardiologist can review ECG findings and advise on rhythm management and anticoagulation.
Heart Failure Ongoing specialist monitoring is essential for patients with a heart failure diagnosis. Our cardiologist can review your treatment plan, assess current function, and adjust management where necessary.
Post-Cardiac Event Follow-Up and Post-Intervention Care If you have had a heart attack, coronary stent, balloon angioplasty, bypass surgery, or another cardiac procedure, regular specialist follow-up is a key part of your long-term recovery. We provide structured ongoing care on the island so you do not need to travel to Bangkok for routine follow-ups.
Pre-Operation Cardiac Evaluation If you are scheduled for surgery — cardiac or non-cardiac — a pre-operative cardiac assessment is often required to evaluate your fitness for anaesthesia and surgery. Our cardiologist can perform and document this evaluation, which is accepted by hospitals and surgical teams.
Cardiac Risk Assessment Not yet diagnosed with a heart condition? If you have a family history of heart disease, elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or other risk factors, a cardiology assessment or our Heart Health Check-Up programme can give you a clear picture of where you stand — and what to do about it.
Referral System for Advanced Cardiac Procedures Where more advanced intervention is required — including invasive coronary angiogram, balloon angioplasty, or coronary stenting — our cardiologist can arrange referrals to specialist cardiac centres. We work with leading facilities to ensure you receive the appropriate level of care and that all documentation is prepared correctly.
What to Expect at Your Cardiology Appointment Your consultation with our cardiologist is a full specialist appointment. Depending on your situation, this may include:
Review of your medical history and current medications
Physical examination including heart and lung assessment
Blood pressure measurement
ECG and echocardiogram where indicated
Discussion of your diagnosis and management plan
Prescription adjustments or new prescriptions where needed
Referral for advanced procedures if required
Written summary for your GP or home country doctor
Do I Need a GP Referral? No. You can book directly with our cardiologist. If you have existing records, test results, or a letter from your GP or previous cardiologist, please bring these to your appointment — they are helpful but not required.
What About Routine GP Care for My Heart Condition? If your cardiovascular condition is stable and well-managed, our general practitioners can continue your day-to-day care between weekend cardiology appointments. We offer chronic disease management for hypertension, high cholesterol, and related conditions throughout the week at all three of our clinic locations. Our GPs and cardiologist work together to provide seamless continuity of care.
How to Book a Cardiology Appointment Cardiology consultations are available every Saturday and Sunday from August 2026 at our Rajabhat University Road branch. Appointment slots are limited — we strongly recommend booking in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a registered patient at Samui Home Clinic to see the cardiologist? No. New patients are welcome. Walk-ins are accepted subject to availability, but we strongly recommend booking in advance as cardiology appointment slots are limited.
What should I bring to my cardiology appointment? Bring any previous ECG or echocardiogram results, a list of your current medications, and any letters or reports from previous cardiologists or specialists. If you have a blood pressure monitor at home, a record of recent readings is also useful.
Can the cardiologist prescribe medication? Yes. Our cardiologist can prescribe and adjust cardiac medications. Our in-clinic pharmacy stocks most common cardiovascular medications.
Is the Heart Health Check-Up programme suitable for someone with no symptoms? Yes — it is ideal for asymptomatic patients. Many cardiovascular risk factors such as high cholesterol, elevated blood sugar, and early hypertension have no symptoms. The programme is specifically designed to detect these before they cause problems.
Is the cardiology service available for tourists visiting Koh Samui? Yes. Tourists and visitors are welcome. If you have a pre-existing heart condition and need a consultation or medication review during your stay, book your appointment in advance for a weekend slot at our Rajabhat branch.
Is a cardiology consultation covered by travel or health insurance? International health insurance typically covers specialist cardiology consultations and investigations. Travel insurance coverage varies — check your policy. We provide full documentation for all insurance claims including itemised receipts, medical reports, and diagnosis letters.
What if my condition requires a coronary angiogram or stenting? Our cardiologist can assess whether invasive investigation or intervention is needed and arrange a referral to the appropriate specialist cardiac centre. We will ensure all your records and results are transferred correctly so your care is uninterrupted.
How much does a pre-operation cardiac evaluation cost? The pre-operation evaluation is priced from the doctor's consultation fee of 500 THB plus any investigations required. Contact us for a specific quote based on your surgery type and the requesting hospital's requirements.
