How Much Does a Doctor Visit Cost in Koh Samui? A Straight Answer on Clinic Pricing

If you've searched for a doctor in Koh Samui, you've probably also searched "how much does it cost" right after — and for good reason. Medical pricing on the island can feel like a black box, especially if you're a tourist without a frame of reference for Thai baht, or an expat comparing quotes between clinics for the first time.

We'd rather just tell you how it works.

Why clinic pricing on Koh Samui varies so much

Not all clinics on the island operate the same way. Some are set up primarily for insurance-covered patients and price accordingly. Others quote per-procedure without itemising what's included. And some genuinely do adjust pricing once they know you have travel insurance, which is exactly the kind of thing that makes people search "is this a scam" at 11pm on their phone.

At Samui Home Clinic, our approach is simple: you get a price before you get treated, not after. A standard consultation with our English-speaking doctors is 250 THB — that's the baseline cost of being seen. Everything beyond that (tests, treatment, medication) is quoted separately and confirmed before you agree to it.

What actually affects your bill

A doctor's consultation is only ever part of the cost. What changes the total is:

⦁ The consultation itself — seeing an English-speaking GP, 250 THB

⦁ Any tests — blood work, urine tests, rapid diagnostics (e.g. dengue, strep)

⦁ Treatment or procedures — wound cleaning, sutures, ear irrigation, IV fluids

⦁ Medication — dispensed on-site or via our pharmacy

⦁ Documentation — a medical certificate or insurance report, if you need one

We walk you through each of these *before* anything happens, so there are no surprises when you're standing at reception trying to translate a bill on your phone.

What "insurance accepted" actually means here

We work directly with a number of international and travel insurance providers, and where direct billing is available, we handle that side of it — so you're not paying out of pocket and chasing a reimbursement later. If your provider isn't one we already work with, we can still issue the documentation you need to claim afterwards: itemised invoices, medical reports, and receipts your insurer will accept.

Having insurance shouldn't change the number on your invoice. It should only change who pays it.

What to ask before you agree to treatment, anywhere

Whether you come to us or not, this is worth asking any clinic in Thailand:

1. "Can you give me a total estimate before we start?"

2. "Is that the same price whether I pay cash or use insurance?"

3. "What's included in that number — consultation, meds, and tests, or just one of those?"

A clinic that's comfortable answering all three clearly, in writing, is one you can trust with the rest.

Walk in, or message us first

You don't need an appointment at Samui Home Clinic — walk-ins are welcome at all three of our locations (Chaweng Beach, Bangrak Beach, and Rajabhat/Bon Kai). If you'd rather know the cost before you leave your hotel, message us on WhatsApp or Line and we'll give you a straight answer before you commit to anything.

FAQ

Do Koh Samui clinics charge more if you have travel insurance?

Reputable clinics shouldn't — the cost of treatment is the cost of treatment, regardless of who's paying. If a quote changes once you mention insurance, ask for that in writing and get a second opinion.

Can I get a price estimate before I visit?

Yes — message us on WhatsApp with your symptoms and we can usually give you a ballpark before you arrive, then confirm the exact cost after the doctor's assessment.

Is a consultation at Samui Home Clinic separate from treatment costs?

Yes. A standard consultation is 250 THB and covers seeing the doctor. Any tests, treatment, or medication are itemised separately and explained before you agree to them.
